Prof. James Duncan

James S. Duncan is the Ebenezer K. Hunt Professor of Biomedical Engineering and a Professor of Radiology & Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Statistics & Data Science at Yale University. Dr. Duncan received his B.S.E.E. with honors from Lafayette College (1973), and his M.S. (1975) and Ph.D. (1982) both in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Duncan has been a Professor of Diagnostic Radiology and Electrical Engineering at Yale University since 1983. He has been a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Yale University since 2003, and the Ebenezer K. Hunt Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Yale University since 2007. He has served as the Acting Chair and is currently Director of Undergraduate Studies for Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Duncan’s research efforts have been in the areas of computer vision, image processing, and medical imaging, with an emphasis on biomedical image analysis and image-based machine learning. He has published over 280 peer-reviewed articles in these areas and has been the principal investigator on a number of peerreviewed grants from both the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation over the past 30 years. He is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and of the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) Society. In 2014 he was elected to the Connecticut Academy of Science & Engineering. He has served as co-Editor-in-Chief of Medical Image Analysis, as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, and on the editorial boards of Pattern Analysis and Applications, the Journal of Mathematical Imaging and Vision, “Modeling in Physiology” of The American Physiological Society and the Proceedings of the IEEE. He is a past President of the MICCAI Society. In 2012, he was elected to the Council of Distinguished Investigators, Academy of Radiology Research and in 2017 received the “Enduring Impact Award” from the MICCAI Society.

Leo Joskowicz is a Professor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel since 1995. He is the founder and director of the Computer-Aided Surgery and Medical Image Processing Laboratory (CASMIP Lab). Prof. Joskowicz is a Fellow of the IEEE, ASME, and MICCAI (Medical Image Processing and Computer Aided Intervention) Societies. He is the President of the MICCAI Society and was the Secretary General of the International Society of Computer Aided Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS) and the International Society for Computer Assisted Surgery (ISCAS). He is the recipient of the 2010 Maurice E. Muller Award for Excellence in Computer Assisted Surgery by the International Society of Computer Aided Orthopaedic Surgery and the 2007 Kaye Innovation Award. He has published over 250 technical works including conference and journal papers, book chapters, and editorials and has 12 issued patents. He is on the Editorial Boards of six journals, including Medical Image Analysis, Int. J. of Computer Aided Surgery, Computer Aided Surgery, and Nature Scientific Reports and has served on numerous related program committees.

Prof. Yu-Dong Zhang received a Ph.D. degree in Signal and Information Processing from Southeast University in 2010. He worked as a postdoc from 2010 to 2012 with Columbia University, USA, and as an Assistant Research Scientist from 2012 to 2013 with the Research Foundation of Mental Hygiene (RFMH), USA. He served as a Full Professor from 2013 to 2017 with Nanjing Normal University. Now he serves as a professor at the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, University of Leicester, UK. Northeastern University, China in 2014. He was an assistant professor of Shanghai Advanced
Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences during 2015–2020. He is currently a research
assistant professor with Department of Computer Sciences and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong
University.Dr. Ruidan Su is an IEEE Senior Member. He has published 22 papers in referred
journals, conference proceedings. He was the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Journal of
Computational Intelligence and Electronic Systems published by American Scientific Publisher

for Computational Imaging and Simulation Technologies in Biomedicine. He is Turing Fellow of the
Alan Turing Institute. Prof. Frangi is the Scientific Director of the Leeds Centre for
HealthTech Innovation and Director of Research and Innovation of the Leeds Institute for Data
Analytics. He holds an Honorary Chair in KU Leuven in the Departments of Electrical Engineering

Prof. Moi Hoon Yap

Moi Hoon Yap is a Professor of Image and Vision Computing at
The Manchester Metropolitan University, and holder of The Royal Society Industry Fellowship
(2016-2018). She received her PhD in Computer Science from Loughborough University in 2009.
After her PhD, she worked as Postdoctoral Research Assistant (April 09 - Oct 11) in the
Centre for Visual Computing at the University of Bradford. She serves as an Associate Editor
for Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, and reviewers for IEEE
transactions/journals (Image Processing, Multimedia, Cybernetics, biomedical health and
informatics). Her research is funded by Royal Society, EU funding, Innovate UK, CRUK, EPSRC
and industrial funding. Her research expertise is in computer vision, image/video processing
on facial analysis and medical image analysis.

Prof. Ryuji Hamamoto (浜本 隆二)

Dr. Ryuji Hamamoto has been involved in cancer research for more than 20 years since he started his career at the Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo. He was appointed an assistant professor at the Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo in 2001, and was an Honorary Visiting Fellow at the Department of Oncology, University of Cambridge from 2006-2007. He then returned to the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Tokyo, but from 2012 he conducted cancer research at the University of Chicago Medicine as an Associate Professor. In January 2016, he was appointed as a Division Chief of the National Cancer Center, where he has pioneered the development of cancer research using AI technology in Japan. Since April 2016, he has been a professor at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Collaborative Graduate School, and since April 2017, he has been a team leader at the RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project, and since 2018, he has been the Representative Director of the Japan Society for Medical AI (JMAI).

Prof. Baiying Lei is currently with the Health Science Center, School of Biomedical Engineering, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen, China. She has coauthored more than 180 scientific articles, e.g., Medical Image Analysis, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, and IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering. Her current research interests include medical image analysis, machine learning, and pattern recognition. She received the M.Eng. degree in electronics science and technology from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2013. She is a MICCAI member, AAAI member, SPIE member. He received a BSc in Computing from University of Portsmouth in 2011, an MSc in Software Engineering from University of Southampton in 2012, and a PhD in Machine Learning from University of Portsmouth in 2015. He has published two research monographs in Springer and over 60 papers in areas such as data mining, machine learning and intelligent systems.

Joseph M. Reinhardt is the Roy J. Carver Chair of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa. He received the BS degree from Carnegie Mellon University, the MS degree from Northeastern University, and the PhD degree from Penn State University, all in Electrical Engineering. Dr. Reinhardt worked for several years in industry as a radar systems engineer. He is currently Professor and Department Executive Officer (chair) of the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Reinhardt teaches courses in the areas of computer programming, biomedical instrumentation, and medical imaging. Dr. Reinhardt is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). His research interests are in the area of medical image processing, with a special emphasis on pulmonary imaging. Dr. Reinhardt has received research support from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, and the Whitaker Foundation. Dr. Reinhardt, together with colleagues from The University of Iowa, founded VIDA Diagnostics, an Iowa-based medical imaging software company that focuses on computer-aided diagnosis and image-guided interventions for lung disease.

Asst. Prof. Xiaoxiao Li

Dr. Li is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) starting August 2021. Before joining UBC，Dr. Li was a Postdoc Research Fellow in the Computer Science Department at Princeton University. Dr. Li obtained her PhD degree from Yale University in 2020. During her PhD studies, she was awarded the Advanced Graduate Leadership Scholarship. Dr. Li is leading the Trusted and Efficient AI (TEA) Lab. Her groups’ research interests range across the interdisciplinary files of deep learning and biomedical data analysis, aiming to improve the trustworthiness of AI systems for healthcare. In the recent few years, Dr. Li has over 30 papers published in leading machine learning conferences and journals, including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, MICCAI, IPMI, BMVC, and Medical Image Analysis. Her work has been recognized with the OHBM Merit Abstract Award, the MLMI Best Paper Award, and the DART Best Paper Award. In addition, she has received travel awards from NeurIPS/ICML/MICCAI/IPMI.
Asst. Prof. Islem Rekik

Islem Rekik received the Ph.D. degree in neuroimaging and computer sciences from The University of Edinburgh, in 2014. She was a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with the IDEA Lab, University of North Carolina, She is currently an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) with Istanbul Technical University and an Honorary Researcher with the School of Science and Engineering, University of Dundee. She is also the Director of the Brain And SIgnal Research & Analysis Laboratory. She is a Program Committee Member of leading international medical image analysis conferences and workshops, including MICCAI, IPMI, Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, Connectomics in NeuroImaging (CNI), and Deep Learning in Medical Imaging and an Area Chair of MICCAI 2019 and Medical Imaging with Deep Learning 2019 Conference. She has co-organized Predictive Intelligence in MEdicine and CNI workshops, in conjunction with MICCAI 2018. Her research works aim to infuse advanced computer vision and machine-learning methods into big neuroimaging, and signal data analysis for improving healthcare and wellbeing.

Prof. Qingfeng Chen

Professor Qingfeng Chen received the BSc and MSc degrees in mathematics from
Guangxi Normal University, China, in 1995 and 1998, respectively, and the PhD degree in computer
science from the University of Technology Sydney in September 2004. He was a postdoctoral
research fellow at Deakin University from 2004 to 2006 and a research fellow from 2007 to 2008.
He is now a Professor at Guangxi University, China，the director of bioinformatics group at State
Key Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Subtropical Agro-bioresources, and a research
fellow at La Trobe University, Australia. His research interests include bioinformatics, data
mining, and artificial intelligence.
He has been awarded 4 research grants,including a National Natural Science Foundation of China
project. He has published 40 refereed papers and one monograph by Springer, including

Dr. Duygu Sarikaya is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering at Gazi University. She received her MS and PhD from University at Buffalo, State University of New York, and her BS from TOBB University of Economics and Technology. She is a FULBRIGHT alumna. She was formerly a Post-doctoral Researcher at MediCIS, INSERM, Universite de Rennes 1 working on Connected Optimized Network & Data in Operating Rooms Project with multiple academic and industrial partners, funded by BPI France, a Project Coordinator and Researcher at ATLAS Program, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, working in close collaboration with clinicians on Deep Blue Project, funded by the Roswell Alliance Foundation, and a Research Assistant at Vision and Perceptual Machines Lab on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) project in collaboration with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. She has served as a board member of Women in MICCAI (WiM). Her research interests span defining the technologies of artificial intelligence-powered, context-aware healthcare applications. More specifically, she works on surgical vision and perception, surgical data science, and medical image computing.

Asst. Prof. Genovefa Kefalidou

Dr. Genovefa Kefalidou come from a multidisciplinary background that includes Computer Science, Distributed Systems Engineering, Human Factors Engineering Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Cognitive Psychology. During her PhD (PhD Thesis: ""Cognitive Processes and Vehicle Routing Problems (VRPs)"") she investigated cognitive-inspired and human-centred interactive methods for route optimisation working on how to enrich existing computational algorithms (e.g. Tabu search) through the design development and evaluation of an interactive tool for planning and solving VRPs. While completing her PhD she started working as a postdoc Human Factors Engineer (Research Fellow) at The University of Nottingham within the School of Computer Science Horizon Digital Economy Research and the Faculty of Engineering (Human Factors Research Group). Her work there focused on HCI research and particularly User Experience (UX), User-centred and Participatory Design, Human Factors and Ergonomics, Ubiquitous Computing utilising mixed-method approaches. She is currently a Lecturer in Human Computer Interaction within the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. She is also the School’s Director of EDI and Academic Lead for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) within the College of Science and Engineering. I am also the School's Ethics Officer, a member of the College's Ethics committee and the University's Research Integrity Working Group.
